The “China Think-Tank Comprehensive Evaluation Research Project” is a nationwide assessment organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Evaluation Research Institute. Held once every four years, this authoritative and highly influential exercise systematically appraises the development achievements of new-type think tanks with Chinese characteristics, and selects and promotes outstanding institutions that possess strong overall capabilities, distinctive professional features and prominent decision-making influence.
The Institute of Education at Xiamen University has long focused on higher-education research, producing a series of landmark achievements in theoretical innovation, policy advice and social service. Hosted by the Institute, the Ministry of Education Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences— Center for Higher education Development of Xiamen University —is committed to becoming a national idea bank and advisory base for higher-education policymaking. Guided by major national strategic plans and development needs, the Center zeroes in on weighty theoretical and practical issues in the discipline of higher-education studies and researches national and regional reform and development policies, playing an active role as a national think tank on major problems. It has undertaken more than 100 national and ministerial/provincial projects, studied development strategies for higher-education institutions at all levels and provided crucial theoretical support and services for their substantive and distinctive development.
This inclusion is not only high recognition of the Institute’s achievements in building a higher-education think tank, but also an important platform for further upgrading its research. Seizing this opportunity, the Institute will keep strengthening its think-tank functions to build a high-level national higher-education think tank; cultivate leading talent and assemble high-caliber research teams; improve operating mechanisms; and deepen theoretical innovation and policy studies in higher education, thereby furnishing strong intellectual support and decision-making services for building a higher-education powerhouse.
