Construction of World-class Universities: China’s Creation with Global Impact

Abstract：In the past, people believed that there was no contemporary higher education system or policy that the West learned from China. In fact, China also has an original higher education policy with global impact, namely the construction of world-class universities. The construction of world-class universities has led to the emergence and prevalence of the world university rankings, which have also promoted the construction of world-class universities in China, enhanced the international status of Chinese university groups, and expanded the international influence of policies of the construction of world-class universities. With the increasingly significant achievements of building world-class universities in China, higher education in China has gradually moved from the periphery to the center of world higher education. The policy of building world-class universities has influenced the formulation of higher education policies and the reorganization of university systems in many countries. It is a truly globally influential creation of China's higher education system.
