In August 2024, the Ministry of Education issued the Decision on Awarding the Ninth Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution (Humanities and Social Sciences), officially announcing the list of recipients. Three research achievements from our institute have been awarded second prize.

The awarded achievement, Stage Characteristics of Large-Scale Online Teaching in Chinese Universities: Empirical Research Based on Group Investigation of Students, Faculty and Academic Staff, is a co-authored paper by Professor Wu Daguang and Dr. Li Wen. Based on a nationwide large-scale online teaching survey conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the paper provides an in-depth analysis of the phased characteristics of online teaching in Chinese higher education institutions. It examines various aspects, including the preparedness of teachers and students, teaching platform support, online services provided by university, online teaching models, and online teaching effectiveness. The study holds significant value and relevance for understanding and grasping the features of online teaching in Chinese universities and promoting the development of digital higher education.

The awarded achievement, Research on the Classification System and Establishment Standards of Higher Education Institutions, is a monograph independently authored by Professor Shi Qiuheng. The book delves into theoretical issues related to the classified development of higher education institutions from multiple perspectives, including the functions of higher education, the labor market, and stakeholders. Based on this, it constructs a classification system for higher education institutions that aligns with the developmental stage and characteristics of China's higher education. This system addresses aspects such as establishment benchmarks, developmental positioning, access and exit mechanisms, and quality standards for running institutions. The research is of great value and significance for guiding the development of different types of higher education institutions and supporting the national innovation-driven development strategy.

The monograph, Modern University System: Principles and Practice, independently authored by Professor Bie Dunrong, comprises General Introduction, Part I: Principles of the Modern University System, and Part II: Practices of the Modern University System. Building on a systematic review of the historical evolution, typical models, and key characteristics of the modern university system, the book delves into theoretical explorations of its fundamental scope, connotations, and features from both theoretical and practical dimensions. It further proposes pathways and strategies for developing a modern university system tailored to China's context. This research has significant value in clarifying the foundational theoretical issues of the modern university system and advancing the construction of a modern university system with Chinese characteristics.

The Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution (Humanities and Social Sciences) stands as one of the most influential awards in China’s humanities and social sciences academia. Since its establishment in 1995, our institute has received 21 awards, including 5 first prizes, 13 second prizes, and 3 third prizes. The recognition of these three achievements not only reflects the professors' dedicated research and academic accumulation, but also demonstrates the effectiveness of Xiamen University's first-class discipline construction in Education. Looking ahead, our institute will continue to advance the construction of first-class disciplines, further produce major scientific research innovations, strengthen organized research, and contribute Xiamen University's strength to the autonomous knowledge system of higher education in China.
